Why would I need to update Bommer?
Bommer is constantly being improved both in terms of time-saving functionality and stability. We release updates frequently to ensure our customers always have the best experience possible; it certainly beats waiting for a quarterly service pack or yearly release! To support these frequent updates, Bommer contains functionality to automatically download and install the latest available version right from within the software without requiring a restart. This is most often a quick and easy process, but like with any software, it is strongly encouraged that you save any pending changes to your files before updating.
Updating from the live view
If a new version of Bommer is available on startup, you will see a button above the table inside the Bommer add-in task pane window. Bommer also periodically checks for updates while it is running, so this button may pop up while you are working. In either case, you can click it to begin the update process.
This will open the confirmation window that contains the patch notes.
Press update and Bommer will update to the latest version and refresh itself after a brief pause. You should be on the latest version, simple as that.
Updating from the Settings dialog
You can also choose to update through the Settings dialog. If a new version of Bommer is available, the Settings button (gear icon) will have a red dot in the top left corner. Click it to bring up the Settings dialog.
Once you are in the settings window navigate to the Updates tab on the far right.
Here we see the Check for updates button is grayed out because there is already an update available. If Bommer doesn't know about the pending update (e.g. it was released while you were running Bommer and Bommer hasn't checked yet), the Install update button would be grayed out and the Check for updates button can be pressed to check if an update is available.
Press the Install update button to have the update confirmation dialog appear. This is the same dialog as shown above.
Once you press Update Bommer will download and apply the update. After a short pause, you will have the latest version of Bommer at your fingertips.
Reverting Bommer to the last version
If an update does not work as expected, causes additional problems, or is slower or otherwise less productive than an earlier version, you can revert Bommer to the previously good version. To do this, open the Settings dialog Updates tab (the same as above) and press the "Revert to last version". When you do, the following dialog will appear:
Press yes to confirm and Bommer will revert to the previous stable version. It will refresh itself and then you may continue using SOLIDWORKS and Bommer as usual.
In general, we assume that a user will revert because there is something incompatible between the latest version and that user's workflow (either it has bugs, or is too slow for the user, or some other reason along these lines). As a result, we mark that version to be skipped for that user and monitor reversions so we can track down and fix the underlying issues that caused the user to revert.

What if my revert failed?
If your roll-back fails for whatever reason, we apologize. In this case, you may need to reinstall from the original installer package. If you need help with this, you can contact us by clicking "Talk To Us" at the bottom of this page.
